Cyrrus
Ltd has developed a simple, robust and affordable ATC Status panel for
use in ATC operations rooms or ATC engineering sections to monitor the
overall status of a group of navigational aid systems. Each such
system will have specialised test and/or monitoring equipment associated
with it, which will constantly ‘report’ it’s current
operational status in the form of a simple pass/fail signal. These
report signals are collectively passed to the ATC Status Panel which
will indicate whether or not any of the system monitors are reporting
a failure.
Some system failures are sufficiently serious to cause the ATC Status Panel to show an alarm condition by illuminating its red "ALARM" indicator, whereas other less serious failures will cause it to activate its yellow "WARN" indicator. If no failures are signalled it will always show a green "OK" indicator.
The Cyrrus ATC Status Panel incorporates a pulsed audible sounder which is always activated when there is any change in the indicated status. The ATCO or engineer must acknowledge the change (and silence the audio alert) by momentarily pressing the Panel's "MUTE" button.
The red, yellow and green indicators on the Panel are high-brightness light-emitting diodes (LEDs) which can give a clear indication of status in bright sunlight. However, the Panel is fitted with a "BRIGHT/DIM" switch to enable the brightness of the LED to be adjusted to a comfortable level to suit the background ambient light levels (e.g. dimmest setting for operation at night-time).
The Panel has a pushbutton "TEST" facility. Pressing this switch causes
failures to be simulated on both the ‘Alarm’ and the ‘Warn’ inputs
to the Panel.
Approved for use by the UK CAA (SRG), these Status Panels are in use at Oxford,
Liverpool and Robin Hood Doncaster Sheffield airports.
